Rewarding Nature is a collection that makes nature’s microscopic movements evident. The concept is to place a piece near indoor plants while they are watered, as plants appreciate kindness and the time taken to care for them. The responses received from rewarding nature would be a macro movement of the plant. The wood polymer dances and performs, implying a “thank you”. Shape memory polymer is the fundamental smart technology used within this design. The input of the shape memory polymer is to turn the responses of the veneer into a more noticeable movement. The tectonic movement is triggered through the veneer’s natural intelligence in response to its environment and the natural property of the grain within the structure of the veneer. The veneer is a constantly unstable surface, as the grain consistently swells and shrinks through the variation of moisture
content and temperature.
